Aimee Stewart – “Gypsy Firefly”

Don’t want to be made of cardboard–

Or of feathers blown away.

Nor Gorilla Glue, or staples–holding me in sway.

Don’t want foundations faulty–

Or cornerstones that cringe.

It’s sturdy dreams I’m after—that will hold and not unhinge!

Béla Török – “Misty Lake”

January 11, 2011 § 1 Comment

It seems like I should be hearing a flute playing
With the wind carrying its song down past the fog and the distance

It seems like I should be shivering from the cold
Since my jacket was thoughtlessly tossed back on the mason wall

It seems like I should be upset with this serendipity—
This spontaneous wandering by this unknown lake

It seems like I should want to be somewhere else—
But somewhere else wouldn’t be half as good as this wonderland

How grand that things aren’t what “they seem” and unexpected detours
can still lead us to surprising beauty!

Béla Török – “Blue Moon”

November 15, 2010 § 2 Comments

Glimmering, shimmering, fantastical hues
Night watchman watching the grays and the blues

Azure and cobalt so framed by the dark
And there hangs that orb like a lone patriarch

Flittering, jittering thoughts running through
As softly repeating Swing songs set the mood

And with coffee “just right” from a thermos in plaid
The watchman just whispers, “night shift’s not so bad!”

“Turn the Page”

August 27, 2010 § Leave a comment

You’re a volume still in progress—the outcome’s yet unknown.
Until you reach the graveyard, nothing’s set in stone!

If you’ve hit too many highways & your paths have tangled weeds,
Don’t forget that nothing’s static—you can always plant new seeds.

‘Cause every day has prospects—new horizons can be found.
Your book of life’s unfolding as you reach for higher ground!

If tomorrow holds some failure, then you’re doing a good job.
Since failure leads to triumph—your success will not be robbed.

Yes, your life can be a rewrite—you can whistle some new song.
You can turn the page and turn the tides…and still move on along.
